Diablo Myths

There are several myths in Diablo and on Battle.net that need to be dispelled.  What will be presented here is the information you need to realize that everything is not always what it seems.

MYTH -- Godmode can be broken

FACT --- Godmode cannot be broken as your computer would have to have access to the other players computer and Diablo over Battle.net is what is known as a "peer to peer" game, meaning one player does not have control over another players game.  More can be learned about this from an explanation by Pedro Faria AKA Jarulf.  His explanation of why you cannot kill a Godmoder is as follows:   "Diablo is a client run game, that is, each person runs his own copy of the game.  It is also only semi-syncronized, that is, there is no complete synch check in the game, only minimal synch to not let the game get totally out of hand.  This means that the amount of data needed to send is much less.   However, it is the fact that each person runs the complete game on their computer that matters here.  This also means that your computer is the main controller of your own character (several extra steps and final checks in the code and not for just damage, but for the whole game) are ONLY done on the same computer as the character is on, that is, the other players computers do not update your own character as much and as frequently as your own computer.  For damage this means that it is the computer where the character is that handles all damage. Other computers can send informtaion that saying that they (the character on that computer) have hit you and done so and so much damage, but it is then up to your own computer to actually deal out that damage to you. Sure, the other computers could have you dead on their computer but as you are not on your, you would actually get some type of ghost status, a living body (I think there are even hacks that do somehting similar).  Anyway,  A god mode works by altering the code on YOUR computer so that it skips all places where damage is done to your character. As other people can't alter the code on your computer, there is nothing they can do to get around it. Some badly written god modes have missed some places and are therefore not complete god mode. Initially damage from firewalls was one such, the first god modes did work against most spells but not fire wall.  Another such hole in some badly written god modes where the heal other spell.  Normally when some player uses the heal other spell, it tells how much was healed, but one could tweak it so that the ammount healed was negative, thus in fact dealing damage. Of course, well written god mode would take care of ANY place that alters your life, be it physical or spell damage or whatever. There are only a limited number of places in the code that actually do update your life, fix them and you have complete god mode (the game actually has a built in god mode that is used in some very specific situations, I don't know if it has any loopholes though as I have not checked it much) When you see someone offer a bunch of .dat files and claim they have a god mode and also a hack that breakes their own god mode, that normally mean their god mode was not well done and left at least hole where it did not protect against life modification and the hack that "broke" the god mode did in fact not break anything at all, it just used that hole to deal damage that way.  I hope this cleared it up a bit. What it basically boils down to is that you can't change or affect the actual code of someont else's computer and if that code is altered so that the character can't be dead, there is nothing to do about it."

MYTH --- Godly Plate of the Whale (Full Plate) exists

FACT --- Godly Plate of the Whale does not exist in MP Diablo. Its a hack in any form you see it. It cannot exist in MP Diablo due to game and monster item generation limits determined by Blizzard.   Even though Wirt is capable of possibly generating a Godly Full Plate of the Whale, the price cap for items being sold prevents it from ever being generated. Every monster and Boss have a pre-determined item generation limit that *only* allows the possibility to generate certain items of a certain type and quality. A good example is that there is no possible way for a skeleton to drop "Stormshield" on level 3 of the Church.  The stormshield is a high level item only found in Hell. Godly Plate of the Whale probably exists due to people editing the code and changing the item generation limit of the game itself.  Once this is done, one would just play the game and see what drops.  See Jarulf's Guide for more information on item generation.

MYTH --- Lightforge items exist in MP Diablo

FACT --- Yet another hack item that can be found in just about any public game. Lightforge cannot legitimately be found or purchased in MP Diablo. According to Blizzard, it does not exist. It was an early item concept for MP Diablo and it was originally a mace. It is also only available in SP and is rarely found.  You will see Lightforge rings, amulets, helms, armor etc.  These are all hacked items and have been created using an item editor.

MTYH --- Being Resurrected causes you to permanently lose a Vitality point.

FACT --- This is simply not true. However, if you are struck by Black Death Zombies, you WILL permanenly lose a point of Life. Note also that some shrines will take away attribute points. Do not touch shrines unless you are absolutely sure of their effects. Cauldron and Goat Shrines have random effects and should be avoided at all costs especially when playing with others as some shrines effect all players in a game.  For a list of shrine messages and their effects, see Moes site at http://come.to/diablosight

MYTH --- If you touch all shrines, the overall effect is good.

FACT --- Touching all the shrines can net you many different possibilities. Cauldron and Goat shrines generate random effects and should be avoided. There is no way to know what type of change will be made to your character. Avoid touching these unknown shrines if playing with others as finding the dreaded "Tainted Shrine" would negatively affect all players in the game.

MYTH --- If you have 2/3 of the gold required to buy an item from Wirt, he will sell it to you at the discounted price.

FACT --- While Wirt has a "mark up" (150%) on his items, it may be possible to purchase the item for less than the original asking price. I received an email from a visitor who informed me that he was able to purchase items for sometimes $5,000 less (not 2/3) than what was being asked by Wirt. This was accomplished by offering Wirt a particular amount and re-asking about the item..adding small amounts of money to what you are carrying in your inventory until Wirt accepts the money. The visitor also mentioned that he has never tried this in Multiplayer, so if anyone wants to experiment, please let me know the results.

MYTH --- Raymond Tan hasn't put out a Trainer for 1.07 because he is working for Blizzard.

FACT --- Raymond Tan, the creator of Raymonds Diablo Trainer, has moved on to bigger and better things. He does not work for Blizzard.

MYTH --- The Cow Level Exists

FACT --- This is probably the most prevalent Diablo Myth on Battle.net. THERE IS NO COW LEVEL. Most people assume there is since there are several cows that you can interact with. Many people will provide you with screenshots of the Cow Level. These are created images. If you dont believe me about the Cow Level, ask Blizzard about it, or if you still believe, go to www.cowlevel.com

Thats all the myths that come to mind right now as I write this. As I come across more, Ill add them. If you know of any that I have left out or think I have listed in error, please email me at stalker_ae@yahoo.com
